The mandate of the Manitoba Crafts Council is "to encourage excellence in fine contemporary Manitoba craft by supporting and promoting craftspeople and increasing community awareness." The Council works in conjunction with the Craftspace Gallery to encourage an attitude of exploration, creative inspiration and excellence among professional craftspeople in Manitoba. It seeks to develop an understanding of excellence in craftsmanship among the public and to focus on traditional craft media - clay, glass, fibre, metal, paper and wood - from a contemporary perspective.
