| Garden Grove began operations from a small retail produce store in north Winnipeg in 1985. At that time co-owners Glen Behl and Michael Gorun purchased vegetables from Winnipeg wholesalers and re-sold them to the public. As innovators, the co-managers began to search for ways in which they could increase the scope and profitability of the business. Their search led to some trial shipments of selected produce purchased directly from California exporters. To cover a portion of the freight costs, and to achieve some buying power, they began in 1987 to supply a few local restaurants with a portion of the imported product. This soon led to the realization that their true interests lay more in the wholesaling than the retail business. |
